Our top priority is to ensure a secure and reliable electricity supply for our customers within the distribution area of the IKB. For many years, we have been providing our customer base with some of the most affordable electricity prices available from Austrian energy providers.
Our existing electricity supply contracts will lead to significant price increases in 2023 and probably in 2024 due to the General Terms and Conditions of Supply for Electrical Energy (version 14)on which they are based. For the sake of limiting this price rise and to allow us to quickly respond to market developments, our customers will be sent updated General Terms and Conditions of Supply (ALB, version 15) in the coming weeks. The energy prices will be adjusted on the basis of these General Terms and Conditions of Supply in July 2023, which will lead to a price of 25.08 cent/kWh incl. VAT for the IKB-comfort plus product.
In order to continue supplying Innsbruck and its surroundings with clean and affordable energy in future, we are offering our customers a new electricity supply contract based on the new General Terms and Conditions of Supply (version 15). Early birds who agree to this new contract by 30 June 2023 will benefit from a promotional bonus of 2.40 cent/kWh incl. VAT valid until the end of June 2024.
We have continuously and transparently reported on the developments on the energy market and their anticipated implications for our customers. Below, we provide an easy-to-understand summary of all the new developments for our supply area and outline the underlying reasons in more detail.
Here’s the good news: The new product remains one of the most affordable electricity prices available from Austrian energy providers and guarantees security for the future. The overall cost increase for a household with an annual consumption of approx. 2,900 kWh will only be marginal due to government support.
Within the next few weeks, all our customers with a standard product will receive a letter detailing the new General Terms and Conditions of Supply (version 15) and an offer to switch to a new product.

![]() | 2,900 kWh annual consumption, standard consumption for 2 people A small household will pay around EUR 10.00 more per month. The total costs for electricity will amount to approx. EUR 61.00 per month. Taking into consideration the electricity price brake, this corresponds to about 20% of the previous annual energy bill for households. This applies to around 60% of our customers. |
![]() | 3,500 kWh annual consumption, standard consumption for 3 people A medium-sized household will pay around EUR 17.00 more per month. The total costs for electricity will amount to approx. EUR 77.00 per month. Taking into consideration the electricity price brake, this corresponds to about 29% of the previous annual energy bill for households. |
![]() | 5,000 kWh annual consumption, standard consumption for 4 people A large household will pay around EUR 26.00 more per month. The total costs for electricity will amount to approx. EUR 109.00 per month. Taking into consideration the electricity price brake and the additional electricity price subsidy, this corresponds to about 31% of the previous annual energy bill for households. |
The existing supply contracts are based on the “General Terms and Conditions of Supply for Electrical Energy (version 14)”, which specify compulsory price adjustments according to particular rules and would lead to significantly higher prices from 1 June 2023.
By offering our customers the option to conclude a new contract based on the new General Terms and Conditions of Supply (version 15), we can continue to offer an attractive electricity price.
Switching to our new product and thus concluding a new energy supply contract also allows us to quickly respond to market developments, and price drops on the electricity market in particular.

You can always initiate an individual adjustment of your monthly instalments. You can inform us of your desired changes by sending an email including your customer data (customer number, unit number) to kundenservice(at)ikb.at.
No, you do not need to submit an electricity meter reading. The meter reading is calculated on the basis of past consumption.
IKB generates clean electricity from local hydropower through its power stations. We are continuously expanding our power stations with large-scale photovoltaic plants. To supply our customers, the IKB currently purchases a significant amount of electricity – especially in winter – on the electricity exchange, most recently at significantly higher prices, unfortunately. These additional costs have to be incorporated into our prices.
This is not true for IKB. IKB expects its result for the 2022 financial year to be 21 percent below that of the previous year. Taking into account positive one-off effects, the result has actually plummeted 40 percent. This is the result of a drop in electricity generation from our hydropower stations. The missing electricity volumes had to be purchased at the sometimes extremely high prices of the energy exchange.
Due to its long-term procurement strategy, IKB was able to keep its prices on a constant low for a long period of time. This has enabled customers to benefit from our affordable electricity prices for a long time, while other electricity suppliers significantly increased their prices earlier.
Even after the price adjustment the IKB continues to offer one of the most affordable electricity prices available from Austrian energy supply companies.
The federal government’s price brake is automatically applied to your electricity bill. You don’t have to do anything to get it. The network cost allowance is also credited automatically if you fulfil the requirements for an exemption from the broadcasting reception equipment licence (GIS) and have applied for and been granted an exemption from the green electricity subsidy.
Multiperson households with more than three people will receive EUR 105.00 per person per year starting from the fourth person. The prerequisite for this automatic disbursement is the granting of the federal government’s energy costs compensation from 2022. The federal government has announced an application scheme for customers who did not apply for or receive the energy costs compensation.

The federal government’s electricity price brake is limited to a maximum of 2,900 kWh a year for each meter.
If your heat pump is operated on a separate meter or supply contract, the electricity price brake for households should generally apply to both bills (the household electricity bill and the heat pump electricity bill).
If the heat pump is operated through the household’s main electricity meter and is not billed separately, the electricity price brake will only apply once to the single shared metering point.
Still, we do not recommend splitting the unit and modifying your heat pump in order to connect it to a separate meter. The costs of this retrofit are significantly higher than the benefit from the temporary electricity price brake. The second separate meter would also incur regular additional costs from the network operator.
The federal government’s electricity price brake is limited to a maximum of 2,900 kWh a year for each meter, no matter what the electricity is used for. Each additional kilowatt hour is charged at your energy supplier’s energy price.
Multiperson households that are the primary residence of more than 3 people according to the Central Register of Residents (Zentrales Melderegister, ZMR) shall be granted an additional quota for the electricity price brake (“additional electricity price subsidy”). EUR 105.00 per year are credited for the fourth and each additional person. The federal government automatically evaluates whether you meet the conditions for the additional electricity price subsidy (i.e. you do not need to apply). The additional electricity price subsidy will automatically be deducted from your electricity bill from June. The federal government has announced an application scheme for households where the automatic evaluation and deduction was not successful.
Please note: The IKB cannot accept or process applications for the additional electricity price subsidy. The application and the data comparison with the Central Register of Residents must go through the federal government.
